COMDDAP Davao 2009

The COMDDAP experience... Ü

COMDDAP DAVAO EXPO 2009

July 2-4, Apo View Hotel, Davao City
"Where the highest mountain in the land rises over the vast rich plains of Davao, where the king of Philippine birds soar over his domain, the giant of all Philippine I.T. shows once more unfolds its latest event. It's COMDDAP Davao 2009 - the biggest I.T. expo held regularly in the South." http://www.comddap.org/events.htm

What is COMDDAP??

"COMDDAP is an association of the country's top information technology businesses. Its primary objective is to promote the sustainable development of the of the country's information technology industry through voluntary collaboration of its member companies. It is the goal of COMDDAP to be able to provide its members general views and updates from different sectors - private and government, and highly regarded individuals to further uplift the morale and knowledge of its organization. The vision of promoting and elevating the standards of Information technology (IT) in the Philippines fueled a group of prominent computer companies to form the Computer Distributors and Dealers Association of the Philippines or COMDDAP. Its initial member-companies represent the world's leading makers and providers of computer products, solutions and peripherals. In 1997, the manufacturing sector - represented by industry leaders Hewlett Packard, Epson and Compaq, among others - was integrated into the COMDDAP membership, making the association a more diverse representation of the IT sector and thus the new name, COMPUTER MANUFACTURERS, DISTRIBUTORS AND DEALERS ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILIPPINES."

Last July 2, 2009 me and my fellow classmates and schoolmates attended the COMDDAP Davao Expo 2009 at Apo View Hotel. It was amusing to be attending those kinds of expos because you get to see the big time people on the technology industry. We look around and saw different technologal advancement with the latest computers, gadgets, different sytems and other computer stuffs. It was fun and amusing seeing all of those. We also get to have some freebies from different booths in the expo. weeh,. hehe That's fun!!
After roaming around we attended the different sessions featuring some big companies in the technology industry. The room was full of students proffesionals and other visitors mostly are from USEP. hehe The first session I attended was about ERIC(Enterprise Resource & Information Control) Managment System. ERIC creates great automotive dealers systems for big automotive dealers around the world. The session was conducted by Mr Celmer L. Santos.
Below is a brief profile of ERIC DMS I go from their site.

"ERIC Dealership Management System (DMS) A complete, end-to-end solution for vehicle dealers, distributors, and service providers."

The second session I had attended was about the new feature hardware of HP(Hewlett Packard) which is the thin client. At first sight I was curious of what that thing is and how does it work. Thin Client is a hardware that is preferably used for small to medium business. It is best fitted for Counter internet kiosk and etc. There are a lot of advantages of Thin Clients like its simplicity, size, remoteness, security and energy consumption.

What is a thin client?
"Thin clients are computing devices that function as an access device on a network. These solid-state devices connect over a network to a server where the bulk of the processing takes place. Thin clients have no hard drive, allowing for more secure storage of data and applications on the server. In fact, keystrokes, mouse events and screen images are all that is sent between the client and server. This makes the device much more secure than a standard desktop or notebook computer.
With no hard drive, fan or other moving parts, thin clients have a much longer lifespan than standard computers and use significantly less power. Lower maintenance costs are another benefit as software application updates, virus scanning and patches can be executed on the server. Deployment costs are also reduced as thin clients can be remotely configured and do not need to be set up individually. Break-fix simply requires replacing the thin client."

The whole experience was really great. Even I havent won the freebies. hehe We had fun roaming around different booths and see what' the newest product of technology. I look forward of attending expos like COMDDAP again.
